PCL Win32 System Exception
« on: 2018 February 03 06:08:44 »
I fairly regulary get a pop up error message "PCL Win32 System Exception"
with details "At address 007FF61BAAAAB20 with exception code C0000005: Access Violation: invalid memory read operation at address 000001F204201003"

It seems to happen more or less at random.  I can click the ok many many times and sometimes it gets better, sometimes I need to kill the PI process with windows task manager.

Is there a way to troubleshoot this?  It's a bit annoying if I've carried out several steps without saving.

I saw some steps for rescaling the display with U-HD screens.  I've done that but I still get the error at random.

Windows 10 64 Dell XPS15 (9550) i7 16GB, latest updates for Windows and PI.

Thanks!

Hi Mikey,

This cannot be reproduced on any of our working and testing machines, on any supported operating system. Unless you can provide a repeatable pattern to reproduce this problem, it is a machine-specific issue. Try on another machine, or on a clean Windows installation with the cleanest possible software configuration—especially, without any utility software provided by your hardware vendor. These issues can be caused by utility software, such as virus protection and file management applications, running as background processes. Outdated or wrong video drivers can also do quite strange things. Sorry for not being able to offer more useful help, but I cannot help with machine-specific issues that I can't reproduce.

OK.  I'll look at other things.

Sorry for the slow reply - I can't work out how to turn on message notifications for this forum.   Is there an easy way to get email alerts?

I just had the error again (same exception code, different addresses).  this time, I have just finished integrating 120 files with linear clipping.  The end result has come up with the usual cascaded set of four output windows.  The last window, laying on top of the others is the 'Slope' output.    The error triggers as soon as my mouse enters the image part of that window.   All the other tools on the window are fine (eg, maximine, zoom to fit, the blue bar along the top etc.

It's only triggered when I go in to the window with the readout tool selected or if i click the image with the zoom in tool.  The other tools (pan mode, center mode) are OK

Very strange. Unlikely, but there's a possibility that old application settings might conflict with version 1.8.5. Try resetting all application settings to default values. There is an option in the Start menu (under the PixInsight folder), or you can launch the PixInsight core application with the Ctrl key pressed. Accept the confirmation dialog and let's see if this helps.

OK, I'll try that.
