Pixel math

In order to do DBE and, presumably a heck of a lot more I need to figure out Pixl math....

It certainly is not intuitive !!!
Is there a good tutorial (I can't find one) that shows STEP BY STEP  how to set up simple uses of this...?

While I am here...when I click on "live preview" it takes up so much upper/lower screen space that I seem never to be able to close the darn thing ...Is there a button somewhere to get rid of it.
Ditto for preview...once I am done with it how do I make it go away...
Is there no online "help file" for this stuff ? and if not,why not ?

1.  Open DBE and click n the image
2.  Generate samples either by clicking on Generate or manually selecting the background areas
3.  Move any sample sites off the nebula or parts of the galaxy by click and hold and move
4.  Execute to produce the background image

1.  Open Pixel Math
2.  Click on Edit button upper right
3.  In new window under images dropdown select image
4.  Select subtract, or type in a -, or use divide
5.  In images dropdown select the background image
        ie RCW 49-RCW 49background
6.  Click OK
7.  Decide if you want to resample and also if you wnat to replace or create a new image
8.  Execute

To delete a preview go to the task bar and in Previews select Delete or Delete All

The eyeball on the lower left of the tools (histogram, curves etc) turns the live preview off and on.  The red button in the upper left of the Live Preview closed that window.

There is help scattered throughout the forum.  IMO the developers have been so busy upgrading PixInsight and adding more functions and tools they have fallen behind in documentation.  I personally would rather have a very sharp tool that I learn to use carefully sometimes by trial and error, than a very dull tool with lots of instructions.  But maybe that is just me.  Hang in there and between the forum answers and members you will get up to speed.

Although somewhat out of date the PixInsight LE docs are helpful to beginners  http://pixinsight.com/doc/LE/index.html

Good Luck!

To complement Jack's recommendations, you will learn a lot with the Video tutorials there
http://pixinsight.com/videos/index.html
look at " An Introduction to the DynamicBackgroundExtraction, ACDNR and HDRWaveletTransform Tools in PixInsight" this is a 57 minutes videos with a lot of valuable information.
Also reading  the forum posts is a mine of information, the great majority of us have learn PI doing so.

Antoine is absolutey correct.  I should have mentioned the videos that show not only DBE but in the process illustrate many other tricks

Thanks folks !!
I think I mentioned I am a computer idiot !! I downloaded a plugin (or two) and watched the videos...Aside from the (?synthetic)  voice, and his 300 mile/hour mousing they were very helpful!!
I figured out a bit of math and am a happy camper..obviously I am still on step 1...
My feelings an this software can be summed up with my feelings (of joy) when I bought my Chris craft (1963)... If it sinks today it was well worth it !!
