Going home to Luminance sets
« on: 2016 November 06 13:52:23 »
Hey folks,

After years of shooting RGBs and building synlums, I am finally going home to LRGB imaging, at least for galaxies.  After lots of reflection, I came to the conclusion that RGBs (and the NB equivalents) are fine for nebulosity and star fields, but for complex galaxies, you really do need those luminance frames.  Here is the results of going home:

Very happy with the detail and, as compared to my RGB stack, the IFN was much clearer in the Lum set as well, though I wasn't intending to emphasize that this time around.

Would love to hear others' views.

Best,

Jim
Really, are clear skies, low wind and no moon that much to ask for?

Really nice, Jim.
I'm working on this one also.  Got the RGB and am waiting for the Lum.  Yours is a great one for me to compare to.

Nice work, Jim.  I've done some bright galaxies successfully in RGB but for dimmer stuff I've found it is hard to get enough SNR without shooting lum.

Cheers,
Rick.
