HDRWavelet Transform freezes
« on: 2009 January 17 09:22:21 »
This is with PI 1.4.5 on Vista 32 bits.

- load image on http://cid-c56e60845cfa6790.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Pixinsight/2008%7C_09%7C_Mond%7C_mosaik.jpg into PI
- Start HDRWaveletTransform
- Set No of iterations to 6
- Apply
- PI freezes after approx. 78% of iteration 3
- Also happened with PI 1.4.2, does not happen with some other pictures

This is a minor issue.

Some additional information: The problem also happens under the following conditions (with same JPG):
- apply HDRWaveletTransform with default settings multiple times to the same image
- increase number of layers from default of 6 to 10 and apply once.

Hi Georg,

Yeah, this is a bug!

The workaround is very easy: just convert the image to a floating point format (32-bit IEEE floating point for example), and your example works fine. Of course, you get a black image after six HDRWT iterations, but this is obviously a wild example :)

This is as you say a very minor issue, but thank you for discovering these weaknesses; we couldn't find them without help, and knowing these little things may be important because they sometimes can hide other, much bigger issues.

Just out of curiosity, how did you generate that mosaic?
