Title: Principal Components Analysis
Post by: GrantBoxer on 2014 March 22 02:22:47
Hi al,
I am using PI to process USGS Landsat satelite data and wondered how difficult it would be to create a principal Components Analysis script/pixelmath function that might be able to do this. I am not a mathematician so perhaps it is too difficult on this platform?

Hi Grant,

Principal component analysis is perfectly doable on the PixInsight platform. Definitely too complex to be implemented with PixelMath, but it could be implemented as a regular PCL (http://pixinsight.com/developer/pcl/)-based module. The only problem is that we have so many priorities that we can't afford to invest resources in this topic right now. If there are developers willing to implement a PCA module, we encourage them to start this project.

Hi Juan,
many thanks for the reply. I have been encorouging fellow geoscientists to use PI for their image processing so hopefully you might have got a few extra sales! Understand the issues with competing resources. Any idea how much it might cost to have someone write the module for this?
