Title: Uninstall before update?
Post by: andyschlei on 2008 February 03 15:41:55
Do I need to uninstall my 54.363 (2008-01-18) version before installing my 55.367 version (2008-01-31)?

If so, will all updates in the future require an uninstall before the update?

Thanks,

I uninstalled then installed the new update but that doesn't answer the question of do you have too?

Hi Andy,

While not strictly necessary, I recommend to uninstall before installing a new version. You have an Uninstall option in the PixInsight Platform item of the Start menu, so uninstalling is just a matter of a few seconds.

This will change when we implement an online update system. This will manage all the updates available in a completely automatic way.

Note that uninstalling PixInsight never touches your license file (.pixinsight-license on your personal folder), so you can unisntall and reinstall as many times as you want without problems. Of course, as long as you don't lose your .pixinsight-license file, you'll never have to reactivate your license.

Juan,

Thanks for the information.  it's not a problem to uninstall / reinstall, I just wanted to make sure that was the right way to do it.

And I've backed up my license file :)
