Hi all!
I have produced another video tutorial for PixInsight.
The title is:
PixelMath Basic Functions
It shows how to use PixelMath with basic steps in the beginning and also some
more adavanced steps during the long duration of this video.
Please note this is a video monster from duration point of view, it lasts nearly 40 minutes if you dont stop
and delete it before... (Size of Video 111MB).
Again, please excuse my selection of wording and my accent - its Austrian.
Hope you will find the video useful.
Here the link to the english version of the
PixelMath Basic Functions video:

Next PixelMath video (Part 2) is already in the production pipeline
and planned for mid of January.
If you understand German and want to use other German PixInsight videos,
they are selectable here on my homepage:

Another larger collection of German videos and tutorials you can find on the homepage of
our Austrian PixInsight Jedi Herbert Walter

Hi Gerald that was an excellent tutorial thanks for sharing your knowledge of pixlemath and making what appears at first glance to be a daunting module into somthing more understandable and very intresting.
you have opened up a whole new world of pixinsight for me. I was so engrossed by the end it left me wanting more.
Off to go over my old data with pixlemath now.
take care
Gary

Thank you, Gerald! I did indeed watch the German version, but I think this will help me even more. As the others have said, you've opened my eyes to many new possibilities beyond just basic combinations.

Hi,
i have extended my PixelMath Basic Functions Video with a Table Of Content.
So you can jump with a mouse click directly to the different subthemes shown at the beginning.
http://www.steuerhilfe.at/GruberAstro/V/Video04_PixelMath_Basic_english_player.html (http://www.steuerhilfe.at/GruberAstro/V/Video04_PixelMath_Basic_english_player.html)
You can hide and display the Table of Content with the symbol in the right bottom corner of the video.
This version of the Video is stored in MP4 File Format.
The original version from the first post -without TOC - is in WMV File Format.
Aloha

Gerald, thank you. The information you've presented in your video is very helpful. And the new TOC makes it really easy to navigate. Great work!

-
Gerald, thank you in advance! I hope to view this in the next day or so and will definitely let you know how it translates over! These are a great help to the community.
Best,
Will

Thanks from me too, Gerald. A very useful video and your English is very easy to understand, even for an Australian :)
-
Thanks Gerald - great effort and much appreciated. Clear skies, Ron.
-
Gerald,
I didn't know so much could be done with PixelMath. I only used it to combine Hubble images.
Your video is really good and understandable.
Danke schön !
I really hope that soon the skies will clear up. There hasn't been a clear night here in Belgium for more than a month.

Very very nice! 8)

I'm only seeing a page not found error, server offline? Maybe too much traffic, seems the link is dead even with just - http://www.steuerhilfe.at/
at the top level. Hope to watch this sometime soon.
-
Than you for sharing it. Very useful. :D

Hi Skyshooter!
The video with TOC is always accessible as mentione above under
http://www.steuerhilfe.at/GruberAstro/V/Video04_PixelMath_Basic_english_player.html (http://www.steuerhilfe.at/GruberAstro/V/Video04_PixelMath_Basic_english_player.html)
If you have troubles executing this player it could be your firewall dos not allow the dynamic loading
of needed subsequent pgms and data...
In that case please use the version without TOC_
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/57910417/Video04_PixelMath_Part_One_english.wmv (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/57910417/Video04_PixelMath_Part_One_english.wmv)
In case you want the TOC version and still have troubles executing it i could zip-pack the pgms and directories
and you have to download, unpack the pgms and directories and than execute locally...
Let me know how successful you are. If you need help maybe we communicate offline
via my E-Mail.
Aloha

Hi Gerald,
Is there a possibility that your videos will be on YouTube one day?
Surely it will be easier to access and more people could profite of your great work...
Thanks

Hi Lex!
Hi Gerald,
Is there a possibility that your videos will be on YouTube one day?
Surely it will be easier to access and more people could profite of your great work...
Thanks
So far i did not think about putting the videos on Youtube because Youtube usually
has low quality - in resolution - so, details will not be visible i think?.
Also, to watch the videos now you klick one Link, to watch
the video on Youtube you also have to click one link.
At the moment i dont get the advantage of putting the videos on Youtube?
Beside the resolution quality i dont see any reason why the videos should not be on Youtube - except one more -
i dont know at the moment what software has to be used, Or do i only have to
compress the video to smaller resolution, save as *.wmv again and than?
Aloha Gerald

youtube now supports up to 1080p and they understand a variety of input file formats. you may simply be able to upload what you've got. maybe if you make a short clip and try it you can see how it looks without investing a lot of time.
i don't know if 1080p is enough for your screencasts, but it is worth a try.

Gerald,
As Rob said, Youtube does indeed support a variety of filetypes. On the other positive side you do not have to follow a link because you search about "pixinsight pixelmath" and you'll find it.
Vicent Perris, Harry Page and many other top rowed Imagers also uploaded HD quality Videos, all great and a good way to share PixInsight with the world, superb commercial for free!!! O0
I think it would be a peaty not to publish your hard work even more

Thanks Gerald,
I'm new to PI, so this is a great help. Its clear and easy to understand. I do feel like I'm back at school trying to understand the formulae though. My maths was never very good. Looking forward to the second part.
Tom.

Thanks Julian!
Thanks Tom!
Thanks that you find the video useful.
Video in Work at the moment is the translation of my finished german "Linear HaOIII_LRGB Combine" video to english.
Should be english beginning next week.
Next will be the video for star reduction/removal and increase visability of nebulae.
Than PixelMath 2 will be produced, the "book" for it is already finished.

Gerald

Hi Jules!
As mentioned in my last post -
The PixInsight Tutorial Video
"Linear Ha_OIII_L_RGB Combine" is available now in english also.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/57910417/Video03_Kombination_OIIIHaLRGB_END_english.wmv (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/57910417/Video03_Kombination_OIIIHaLRGB_END_english.wmv)
This version is executable directly from dropbox.
I do also have a version with table of content, i could upload it also
to dropbox but this TOC version has to be completely downloaded with subdirectories
and executes than on your pc. Somehow complex... If you want it
let me know.

I would appreciate a copy of your TOC version of your tutorial. :-* ???
Thank you, Charles

Gerald and all,
I have been following this thread and watching the videos with great interest. Thank you very much for making these videos available. They are great!
I am creating links on my desktop for easy access. How are others providing local access to the videos? (One of these days I just must get myself better organized).
Add my vote for putting them on Youtube if it can be done without degrading quality.

Hi Gerald
After watching your video (it was very good). I tried following your work flow but I do not have the HaRGB combination script. I have downloaded it, installed it in Pixinsight/contents/src/script.
However I don not see it when accessing the scripts through PI 1.8 RC3. Do you know if these scripts are platform independent I am using OSX on a Macbook?
Regards
Julian
-
Hi Jules!
HaRGBCombine should run in 1.8 also
but you have to correct line 128 in the script if it was not corrected so far.
See Juans Solution for this in
http://pixinsight.com/forum/index.php?topic=3446.msg35224#msg35224 (http://pixinsight.com/forum/index.php?topic=3446.msg35224#msg35224)
in Reply #74
After this correction:
Run the "Feature script" with all steps
to make the script accessible and visible in the menu?
or
simply select under the script menu
Edit script
select the HaRGBCombine
press F9 to execute (after correction of line 128)

Thanks Gerald, that is excellent.
