Hi all,
Is there a way to preview my exposures prior to combining them? My tool of choice for aligning and combining images prior to PixInsight provided me with two ways to visually preview each exposure so that I could reject those that had problems. Is there a way to do that in PI?
Thanks,
Dave
P.S. I've been away for about a year for various reasons (equipment failure and knee surgery) but I expect to have a working telescope in a few weeks and my knee should be recovered enough to run the observatory about the same time. So you can expect a rash of "I can't remember how to do this" questions shortly after that. ;)
Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave,
there used to be a script that allowed you to quickly pop from one image to the next. I don't see it in the distribution now. Perhaps it was never included. It looks like the only current option is to simply load every image into PI and examine them. Near as I can tell there is no way to analyze star shapes/quality on a set of images in one shot. It is perhaps possible to first register all your subs and then run the same PSF analysis on all of them. I use DSS to grade, select and stack my images so I haven't really tried this part in PI yet, sorry.
I hope your knee heals well!

Dave, why you don't like Animation script?

This is the Animation script, written by Nikolay Volkov, and of course it is part of the PI distribution on all platforms. If you have your PI distribution up-to-date, then you'll find it on the Process Explorer: Scripts > Image Analysis > Animation 2.95. This is similar to (if not more than) what Dave is asking for.
For more information on this nice and excellent script, take a look at the original thread on this forum (http://pixinsight.com/forum/index.php?topic=1895.0) (12 pages).

Yes it is possible, but right now as a manual process only. Soon I'll publish a new version of the Core application, where a batch image grading script will be very easy to implement, based on the DynamicPSF tool. Then perhaps you'll have one more reason to use PI for more tasks :)

I never said I didn't like it. I said I don't know of a way to preview all the exposures. Could you share a little more information about it with me?
If I'm going to have to write code just to preview my exposures, I'll be less than impressed. I can easily preview every exposure in Nebulosity by simply using the "Preview" tool. Simple, eh?

Juan,
Once again you come through with the necessary information. At a quick glance, this looks like the tool I'm asking for. I'll have to spend more time with it to see how much more it can do for me, but it at least gives me a way to preview the images. The name of the script seems rather vague, but at least now I know where it is.
Thanks,
Dave

You mean the animate script doesn't actually, well, animate? I'm not surprised I did not pick the script from the list when I went to look for Dave.

...it definitely animates. you can apply a single STF to all images or STF on a per-image basis. works pretty well for finding bad subs. still using DSS to evaluate my subs but occasionally if the mount has "jerked" and there are double star images in the sub, DSS thinks that's a reasonable frame. so i usually go thru again with the animation script.
