Title: Combining subs with different exposure times
Post by: RobF2 on 2010 August 21 04:10:30
I'm currently shooting Ha frames to go with LRGB data I collected at a dark sky site for M16.  I already have quite a few 5min shots, but the mount is tracking well so tonight I've been shooting 10min Ha subs.

I would normally stack the 2 stacks separately and look to blend them to taste/utility at the end (in Photoshop actually >:D  :-[)
What would happen if I just calibrated, aligned and integrated them in PI - any pros and cons?

Thanks all,

R

Rob,

Just use noise evaluation weighting. It takes care of this problem automatically.

Thanks guys - looking at the process icon I've saved and usually start from I'm typically running on the following in the "Image Integration" section of the Image INtegration process:

Combination:   Average (or Median)
Normalization:  Additive
Weights:           Noise Evaluation

(with Generate integrated image and Evaluate Noise ticked also)

I'll give it a spin both ways and see what happens!  :)
