Title: On-line Centralised 'Repository' for User Scripts and User Modules
Post by: Niall Saunders on 2010 August 19 08:27:44
Can we organise some sort of 'common repository' where all user-generated Scripts and compiled PCL modules can be 'posted' (including any open-source code for PCL processes)?

This would allow individuals to keep 'their' code up to date, but would also make it nice and easy for users to look for the latest version of any processes that they might need.

Any suggestions as to how this could be (easily) implemented?

Cheers,

Hi Niall

AFAIK, Juan is developing a new upgrade system (don't know if it will include scripts). Basically, you'll be able to select repository sources, and keep the PI platform updated, both the core application and modules. Along with the official sources ("stable"), one may include development repositories, to try new features. Also those repositories may point to 3rd party sources, allowing independent developers keed their own "packages".
It should be ready for 1.6.2, as it was previously scheduled for 1.6.1 but delayed because of some stability problems.

I like the idea, especially to keep the resouce organized and updated. Personally, I sympathize with the add-ons style of Firefox, for example, with "check for updates" option inside aplication, and a categorized/searchable web. I presume that there are many subtleties to consider, but it would be nice.

Enzo.
