Title: Color Sample Tool
Post by: twade on 2010 July 18 12:38:04
To all,

I know I suggested this a long time ago, but I can't seem to find the original post.  Nevertheless, it would be nice to have a way similar to Photoshop where one clicks on several locations in their image to track their R, G, B values.  This is very handy when trying to remove slight color casts.  Although Photoshop limits your color samples to four, it would be nice to have more.

Thanks,

Wade

Hi Wade,

so what does PS do exactly with those samples and then how do you use them? Would it be enough for the readout values to be printed in the console in PI?

Nice suggestion. "Plant" some fixed readout samples, and keep them showing the info, automatically updated.
Juan? :)

PS gives you two values.  The first value remains unchanged.  It is the untouched value.  The second value dynamically updates with every tweak you make to the image.  What I like best is it gives you the ability to track specific locations in your image.  For example, you could click on a neutral background location and watch the values to ensure the background stays neutral.  Or perhaps, you know a particular stellar cloud is true red so you can make sure green and blue are the same values.  It's a really nice feature that I hope some day PixInsight implements.  It may not be possible until layers are introduced.

I think that the layer funcionality has nothing to do here... In fact, I think that there is everything already to implement that as a process window (it would be nicer as a main app feature...).

I agree with Carlos that this has nothing to do with layers. All that's needed is the ability for a samples to be placed on the real time preview window with readout of the original and modified values. To make it real fancy the sampler could also be placed on an image or preview and show the current value and the previous one in the process stack. That would allow the sampler to work with processes that don't work with RTP.

Great idea wade!
