Title: Check for updates function ?
Post by: Foton on 2009 November 18 01:51:13
Hi Pteam, I wonder if there is any plans to include "check for updates" functionality in PI.
As there are few releases per year this capability would be very usefull.
Thanks for your work !
José Luis.

Hi José ,

Assuming that you keep Juan informed of any email address changes that you might have, then you will automatically be informed about all major changes, as well about any important PI news.

Doing things this way leaves PI to run with complete autonomy from any Internet connection - sometimes useful in 'field observatory' situations.

But, Juan may have plans to incorporate your suggestion anyway . . . .

Cheers,

Hi José Luis

Indeed, this feature would be great. In fact I've been having the intention to include it since some versions, but other pending tasks have always stolen me the time required to implement it. This is a critical task that must be implemented very carefully.

Thanks for pushing me in this direction. My idea is to write a system that automatically allows you to download and install a single module, or an updated core application, or any set of components, not necessarily a complete version. This would be wonderful because it would save me from publishing a whole new version when a severe bug is detected. From the user side, it would be also great because each bug fix would be applied immediately.
