Title: File association .xisf causes reinstall of previous version of PixInsight
Post by: dchamberlain on 2020 February 03 08:06:06
I have noticed that if I double click on a .xisf file from Explorer or Total Commander, Windows wants to install a previous version of PixInsight. I am on version 1.8.8-4 but the Windows installer takes me back to version 1.8.8-3. The file type association works after that, but I am immediately prompted to apply updates. The first update package updates PixInsight to 1.8.8-4 and the file association still works. However, I am prompted by PixInsight that there are 13 new updates to apply. I apply those updates and the file association is broken again.

Seems like the end result comes down to
1. Stay on the previous update to preserve the file association.
2. Keep PixInsight up to date but don't use Explorer or Total Commander to open the .xisf file.

Anything else results in insanity.

I am not a windoooze person, but this does not seem to be PI problem as what is happening is out of PI's control

This problem has already been fixed. Just download and install the latest 1.8.8-4 installation package:
