Title: PixInsight 1.8.5 - Was the SHO-AIP script removed?
Post by: aljordan on 2017 August 04 06:04:34
Hello,

I upgraded to the latest version and can't find the SHO-AIP script. Has it been removed in the new version?

Thanks,
Alan

Apparently it's removed and no longer works with the update.  I've seen no further information on it

Are there any plans to revive it, or some other similar blending script?
Are there any good tutorials for creating the L channel using pixelmath?

This is a big disappointment as I use this script in nearly every image...
Thanks for the info...

I got a copy of the script and tried it in 1.8.5 and it seems to work just fine. Not sure what the problem is supposed to be, but for now it seems fine.

Hi all,

These scripts have been removed from the official PixInsight 1.8.5 distribution. The reason is that they cause some problems with the graphical interface, including dialog organization issues, incorrect English translations and image windows left hidden after script execution. I tried to contact the authors of these scripts some time (maybe years) ago but received no response. These scripts are not actively maintained as far as I know.

If they are so important for you, we can reinsert them in the distribution through an optional update repository. Let me know if this is the case and we'll arrange it.

i think it would be a good thing if you put those depreciated scripts back in a separate repo. the top 2 questions i've seen on other forums in the last few days are 1) where is the extract L* button and 2) where is the SHO-AIP script? apparently a lot of people use that script!

Yes please reinsert the SHO-AIP script.

Thanks,

I would also like to see the link back.  I used it on a regular basis.  My Narrowband SHO images are coming out of Color Combination and Pixel Math completely different than what I am used to seeing.  Not sure the cause for this.

Hi, I added it to the unofficial list of scripts. You can add PixInsight Resources repository (http://pixinsight.com.ar/en/docs/47/pixinsight-manage-repositories.html) and have it back.

Please, note that this repository has a lot of unofficial scripts that I have not tested yet in version 1.8.5 - You can always choose only the scripts you need.

Saludos, Alejandro.

Please put it back.  Also it looks like there might be a more recent version on the AIP site.  Might be worth reaching out.

Hi Alejandro, thanks for putting them in your repository.  I tried using it and the scripts downloaded but when I try to install them I get this error:
Anyone else encounter this?
Thanks

I didn't want to say this explicitly in my initial answer, but here is one of the main reasons for having removed these scripts from the official 1.8.5 distribution.

Please put it back.  Also it looks like there might be a more recent version on the AIP site.  Might be worth reaching out.

It just does not work this way. I cannot maintain scripts being developed backwards to PixInsight. When that happens, the scripts in question cannot be part of the official distribution. In other words, if a software product is being developed on PixInsight, but outside PixInsight, then it has to live independently.

If Alejandro has made these scripts available again from PixInsight Resources, that's fine, but please understand that these scripts are unofficial from now on.

Yes I have seen that very thing. I went to each of those scripts and edited the file permissions and they now work again. Don't know why they came in with the necessary read permissions but its a simple fix

I too was very disappointed the AIP Script was removed and I always used it for my narrowband. I would not have updated to 1.8.5 if I would have known it was not available.

I can understand the PI reasons. Anyway, it has been a loss for me as I used it very often.

Let's hope things can marry to a better solution for all. Right now we can used it as said before.

Thanks,

Aleix

Hello
I am one of the 2 authors of this script (but not the programmer !!! )

I really understand and agree with Juan about integrate or not the scripts in the official release. If integrated, script needs update along the new version of the DLLs or Core. And unfortunatelly, we cannot provide this effort to make the modifications.

We use this script (SHO-AIP) with success on 1.8.5. I will try to understand and find the bugs  :'(

English translation is maybe false as we use the french version, I didn't take a look of the english one. I will also try to correct the wrong english translation !

The problem on the linear image where we need to make a STF, we cannot display in the menu a STF version of the image. Only linear LUT can be displayed.

Anyway, you can use the 1.0.11 version here for the moment.

english

DoubleDeadLine is also a usefull script if you have bad columns. It is only working fine with 16 bits FIT images. We are trying to adapt it for XISF 32bits ones.

Hi Philippe,

Great news! Please let me know when you have the latest versions ready for release. To ensure normal inclusion in the standard PixInsight distribution, I strongly recommend you join us at GitHub and upload these scripts to our open-source PJSR repository:

For some reason the repository returns the error:

"https://pixinsight.com/ar/repository/: Network error: Response code = 404"

But I could add the AIP files via the zip download.

Chris,

For those of us who are not programmers, could you elaborate on exactly what to change re the file permissions.

Thanks,

Philippe et Laurent, I volunteer to help w/ translation- you can reach me at warhenk at yahoo dot com. Glad to see this- people rely on the scripts, and I'm glad Juan has reopened the door for them to be reestablished. As you may know, I've spent a lot of time detailing them. I'd also have suggestions to simplify them. Hate to see them fall by the wayside. Merci

Hello

We are "full" at work each other these times and no time to write a new code (or simplify it). We also take time to process our continous flow of images from Chile and preparing the installation of our 500mm ODK in March 2018 in Chile.

If someone is familiar to program a script using file selection and pixel math, I will be open to explain him the goal of the Luminance and also SHO blending/mixing.

Sorry for that... days have only 24 hours !

Best regards

See Alejandro’s post on page 1.

I added the repository but and when I checked for updates it says that there are no updates available.  I don't have the script in my PI version.  What am I doing wrong?

Hi,

I tried to add the script but it is not there. I put

http://pixinsight.com.ar/repository/

in my manage repositories window. When I check for updates, it says there are none.

Any idea where I can find this?

Thanks,

Bernard

I sure would like to have SHO-AIP, I followed the Pixinsight on how to add the repository (which is where SHO-AIP may reside) but now there is no repository.    This is like the Lord of the Rings, the search for SHO-AIP

An update.....

Have a look at this site http://www.felopaul.com/pix.htm, you can download them in English pixbr.zip

Whether they will work or not is a different matter.........happy playing

EDIT: I have just tried SHO-AIP on a iMac and it seems to work all OK
ANOTHER EDIT: It looks like the only problem maybe with the Load and Save functions which is no big deal really.........

Hello

I am using SHO-AIP since the beginning (as I know very well the author) and it is still working on 1.8.8.4.

I also have corrected 2 errors in the code. It works pretty well on OSX (should be OK on Windows)

I join here a ZIP file with latest version

cheers

Hi Philippe,

I PM'd you yesterday offering my assistance as a programmer so we could possibly change the code to meet Juan's suggestions so we can it back into PI as a standard script.....did you receive my email?

Would you be interested in me doing the work for you? I already have a list of Juan's suggested changes so I can start now as I have plenty of time on my hands as I am now retired.

PS I have tried to PM myself and no email has been received, maybe there is a problem with this feature

Please send it to me because I'm not sure Laurent will get the message.
