Title: Decompression of fz-files
Post by: cwiede on 2016 August 10 10:39:31
Hi!
PixInsight can't read fits-files compressed with the fpack alogrithm (https://heasarc.gsfc.nasa.gov/fitsio/fpack/). If someone would implement this, I would be glad.
Best regards
Christof

Hi Christof,

The FITS format has been deprecated in PixInsight. This means that no new features will be implemented in the FITS support module anymore. If a new FITS standards document is ever released and our current implementation does not support significant new features, we'll upgrade it, but that's it.

XISF is the native file format of PixInsight and supports a wide range of lossless and lossy data compression algorithms.

Dear Juan,

I was very pleased with the latest PI update release that should contain CFITSIO for macOS. I was expecting this would enable opening fpacked compressed FITS files (filename.fits.fz) of my observations on LCOGT that are compressing all fits files. https://lco.global/documentation/archive-documentation/

However, PI cannot open such files. Do you have any advice please?

Thank you and best wishes

Peter
