The Official PixInsight LE Documentation

The official documentation for PixInsight LE consists entirely on a set of hypertext markup language (.html) documents.

The documentation material can be used with virtually any updated web browser; for example Microsoft® Internet Explorer version 5.0 or higher. In the event of errors, make sure to enable JavaScript and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) support in your browser preferences.

Local Documentation

Starting from version 1.0.1, PixInsight LE can be installed with or without a local copy of the official documentation.

If you installed with local documentation, you can use the Help > Help Index (F1) main menu option to access the documentation on your system, and then no Internet connection will be strictly required by PixInsight LE.

If you installed PixInsight LE without local documentation, the Help > Help Index menu item will fail because the required documentation files will not be found. In this case you'll have to access the online documentation through Help > Online Help (Shift-F1).

Online Documentation

To access the online documentation, you need an operative Internet connection. Select the Help > Online Help (Shift-F1) main menu option or, equivalently, direct your web browser to the PixInsight LE Online Help index page:

Note that the online help system can be accessed without caring of whether you installed or not a local copy of the documentation. The Help > Online Help (Shift-F1) main menu option is always available.

The online documentation is kept up-to-date by the Pleiades Astrophoto development team, and is also permanently being revised and improved by the PTeam.

Performance issues
Many documentation figures and examples are based on JavaScript mouseover techniques. Basically, when you pass the mouse cursor over some special links, some images change to show a comparison between two or more processing stages. When such mouseover links are used on line, sometimes relatively large files have to be downloaded, so you must wait for a few seconds without moving the mouse cursor, until the involved image gets updated completely. This is especially important when using slow dial-up Internet connections.
