Batch Preprocessing

Hi

I have not undertaken any imaging since February this year what with work and the wet weather. Now I am in the middle of having a remote telescope set up.

Last night I created some darks, bias frames and a test light image and put them all through the Batch preprocessing script. It produced some great results. I am really pleased that I can move from my current calibration software and do everything in PI. At the risk of sounding corny this is a great script.

One question I have, with bad pixel maps, will the script apply the cosmetic correction to all subs of various durations, does it take in to account bin size etc?

Hi Jules, I agree- thank you Kai and Juan! It's certainly made things much easier and with good result. Juan, et al- I am now seeing a disclaimer notice I'd not before and wondering if it is new. It states that integration w/ the script is inferior as to what can be achieved with the ImageIntegration Process. Is this still the official stance and if so are we working towards a time when this will not be the case and all aspects of PP can be accomplished with confidence using the BPP script? Thank you.

When using the script to integrate you get the same output as the integration if the same settings are used it is just that I usually have to do several integration runs varying the settings to get best results i.e removal of unwanted items only not good data 

Therefore I use the calibrated and registered files from the script and run integration separately for best results 

BTW good question about binned images and cosmetic correction ,as I do not know the answer but suspect only I setting can be used

As for image integration, I don't think so. As Harry has pointed out, to get the best possible result out of the data, the integration task should always be carried out manually. Each data set is different, and rejection parameters have to be fine-tuned by some trial-error work. With some practice and the help of regions of interest and rejection maps, the process can be really fast and a few iterations are usually sufficient, so we are not talking of a tedious task.
