22 hours in a cave

(1/2) > >>

siovene:
Hi,
here's my rendition of the Cave Nebula (aka Sh2-155 or Caldwell 9), nebula in Cepheus.

It's 22 hours in 40-minute subs, acquired during five nights. Here's the outcome:

It was quite hard to process because of the rare OIII signal. I wish I had 10 inches instead of less than 4, and 3nm filters! :-)

Anyway I feel quite satisfied. Now let's hear your say!

dayers:
Another great narrowband image. Thanks for sharing it with us. I am impressed with what a good camera on the end of an 80 ED and a good mount can achieve.

Dave

siovene:
Thanks Dave! But let's not forget that I'm imaging from one of the darkest locations in Europe and having pretty long integration times!

Geoff:
Really nice pic. Sharp, good colours.  I surfed the web for other images and this one stacks up pretty well against images taken with much larger apertures. One small point I noticed was the vertical spikes on some of the brighter stars. I think that's due to the micro lenses on the chip, so there's not much that can be done about it.
22 hours is a marathon effort.  Well done!
Geoff

siovene:
Thanks Geoff. You're right about those spikes: it's a defect caused by the microlenses and I can't do anything about it, unless I start clone-stamping them away one by one.
