M101 (the famous Pinwheel galaxy)

(1/1)

Detlef Hartmann:
Hi,

here my third image for this forum: M101, the famous "Pinwheel galaxy".

The image was taken in March 2012 at the Emberger Alm / Kaernten / Austria.
I used my 25 years old Newtonian (d=443mm, f=2048mm) with a SBIG ST-10XME, CFW-9, AO-8.
The total exposure time was 4.8 hours (luminance 30x5 min. bin 1x1, red 7x5 min. bin 2x2, green 7x5 min. bin 2x2, blue 14x5 min. bin 2x2).
The seeing was good, the FWHM was app. 2" .
Processing was done with the CCDSoft-plugin Wodaski-Debloomer (only deblooming) and PixInsight 1.7.

The full format image is available via: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B00Jlg5VrA0WSFNYU2RGVWJGZzQ
(you have to download it from google drive to view it at full resolution)

The very blueish star below the center is the supernova SN 2011fe (August 2011), still glowing very bright.
Very nice-looking also the small background galaxies shining through the galaxy from behind.

Constructive criticism welcome!

Detlef
