adjust numbers with up/down arrows
« on: 2012 March 08 12:18:48 »
I'm finding that fine tuning values with sliders too coarse.  Sometimes you want to really hone in on a value and the slightest movement of the slider one way or the other completely goes past the value you might want.  I know you can manually type in the numbers, but that is tedious with trial and error when you might be talking about 6 decimal places.

It would be very convenient to be able to just use the arrow keys up and down, or left and right, to increase or decrease the values with a bit more refinement.  Perhaps even up/down might be fine adjustment while left and right arrows might be a little coarser?  Or perhaps shift up/down (or some other modifier) could be the coarser adjustment.

Thoughts?  Agree/disagree?

I second, I often have to type the values as the move is too coarse.

This is a nice suggestion and will take usability to higher level.  PS has had this type of adjustment capability for a while and it makes things much easier to adjust with a high level of precision.

You may use the wheel to move the slider. Just put the cursor over the slider, and move the wheel. The only issue, is that it is not a high precision adjustment. Sometimes it is coarser than the smaller steps in the slider.

Thanks Carlos, I must admit I wasn't aware of the mouse wheel on the sliders.  Will try that some more.

Even so, perhaps holding down "shift" while scrolling the wheel could be a feature to go down a couple of steps for really fine adjustments.  I'm talking about some sliders where the values might be to 4 decimal places.  Scrolling the wheel seems to be in increments of 0.01 min?  Maybe shift+wheel could be 0.001 or 0.0001 increments?

The wheel also doesn't seem to work on number inputs where there isn't a slider.  eg HistoTransform
Even be handy for the number inputs next to sliders, so you have the option of mouse over the slider or the number itself.

It's also waaaay too sensitive on the STF sliders here.
