Hi all

After what seems an eternity of collecting narrowband data over the past few months and then deciding to collect some RGB subs for the stars

Technical details

Hasselblad 150mm lens on QSI583WSG

Astrodon 3nm Ha 8x900s
Astrodon 3nm SII 16x900s
Astrodon 3nm OIII 19x900s

Astrodon Red 10x120s
Astrodon Green 16x120s
Astrodon Blue 16x120s

Processing

Registered and stacked in CCDStack
DBE, MT, DW, ACDNR LRGB combine in PI
Final tweaks of colour and over lay of RGB stars in CS4 - only because I dont have the skills to do this in PI yet  :-[

This is my first ever triband image and I'm very pleased with the results. I suspect in a few months time I'll look back at this with different eyes

General Discussion / Processing Narrowband in Hubble Palette
« on: 2010 September 19 17:50:51 »
I've looked on the Forum and on the PI website but I cannot find a guide to combining and processing Narrowband in the HST palette

I must admit I can hardly see at the moment after a marathon session processing my Ha, SII and OIII subs from the last few months  :surprised:

I've combined them using the LRGB Combination function to give me my base Hubble image but I cannot find the tools to tweak the colour. In CS4 I'd use the Selective Colour tweaking the Greens, Yellows and Cyans to get the golden colours .....

Actually I don't think I'm that far off in colour

After this I've got the RGB stars to add in .....

Hi

Thought you might like to see a slightly wider field taken with a Haselblad 150mm lens on the QSI583

Evening all

Managed to process my first Ha image in PI

1. DBE
2. Histogram stretch
3. MT to recduce star sizes
4. HDR Wavelets
5. Contrast Curve
6. Histogram tweak
7. ACDNR

6x1200s subs on FSQ106 at f/3.6 using QSI583, Astrodon 3nm Ha filter

I'm very pleased with the tonal range on this one. The image is a bit soft as this was pre Robofocus and focussed by hand with temperature drift ....  :(

All comments appreciated

Thanks

General Discussion / Morphological Transformation (MT)
« on: 2010 September 17 15:22:26 »
I've been using MT to reduce star sizes and hence enhance the nebula - particulalry for my wide field Veil shots I'm working on wheer there are a lot of stars 30 min subs in Ha and OIII)

Some of my old images have elongated stars in the the corners (sometimes only one corner). I was wondering if I can use MT to correct this elongation but only in one corner. The Star Mask seems to cover the whole of the image.

Thanks

General Discussion / Request for assistance
« on: 2010 September 15 21:27:18 »
Hello all

I believe I have captured some good LRGB data recently on the Iris Nebula. I've managed to get a reasonable image rough and ready in CS4. However, I really want to move over to PI as soon as ..

I am unable to get anything have way decent using PI at the moment - Andy Warhol would be proud of my efforts  :-[  Are any of the PI experts out there willing to spare some time maybe with an online tutorial?

Thanks in advance

Nigel

Here is what I've achieved in CS4 ....... to prove to myself that the data is okay

Wish List / Toggling Previews
« on: 2010 September 13 19:28:25 »
Not sure whther this is a item for the wish list or just something I haven't discovered how to do yet. If it is the latter then moderator please delete this thread

I've been using previews to check the effect of HDRWavelets on various areas of my latest project. After applying the HDR to a preview I've been moving between the original and the preview to check the differences. Would it be possible to have a facility to view the main image and toggle the effects applied to the previews on/off in the individual windows - maybe a right click Effect on/ Effect Off

Hope this makes sense ?

General Discussion / Selective Contrast
« on: 2010 September 13 19:23:52 »
Evening all

Well I decided to process my latest Ha subs of NGC7000/Pelican entirely in PI.

So far so good but I've now hit a problem or rather a gap in my knowledge

When I used to use CS4 I used the Lasso and then Imade/Adjustments/Contrast&Brightness to tease out htos faint areas of nebulosity

How would I go about this in PI

Thanks in advance

General Discussion / Combining Ha and OIII
« on: 2010 September 11 15:17:33 »
Hello all

I've been happily processing my Ha and OIII subs in PI and I've even saved my first Process Icon  :D The Morphological Transformation tool wokred overtime on this wide field shot .....

Once I've got the images ot a decent state I'll want to combine them into RGB and generate a synthetic Green channel or create one using the Ha and OIII

I've had a good look through the forum but cant seem to find anyhting on this

Any thoughts / directions ?

Thanks

General / Upgrade policy
« on: 2010 August 27 22:37:56 »
I'm currently on day 5 of the 45 day trial and I must say I am VERY impressed both with Product and the Helpfulness of the PI Community  :D :D

I'm interested in what is the policy on upgrades? If I purchase say v 1.6 will I get upgrades for a fixed period, forever or until the next major release? If the latter what is the cost structure for version upgrades? and when is version 2 scheduled for release?

How often are versions released typically?

Hope this makes sense

Hi all

Five days into my PI trial and I post my first image

This is a process of an image stacked in CCDStack using Histogram Stretch, ACNR and HDRWavelets

20x900s, Astrodon 3nm Ha, QSI583 with HAsselblad 150mm f/4 lens

General Discussion / The Veil
« on: 2010 August 25 09:17:23 »
Hi again

Been playing with the HDRWavelet function in PI

A picture speaks a thousand words

Left image, stacked image no HDR
Middle image, HDR 4 layers
Right image, as middle plus HDR 2 layers

Exactly as per Harry's tutorial  :D

General Discussion / Gradient removal
« on: 2010 August 25 08:27:41 »
Hi again

I took some H alpha subs against the Full Moon and obviously I have a gradient. I've used the DBE tool to remove this.

Is this the correct way top do this? It seemed to do a cracking job
