Hi Christopher, nice image.
I suggest that if you have saved the project, look into it to find when the holes appears and apply in that process a conveniente starmask to protect the cores.
If you do not have it, then, try to repair the stars whit MT. See the attached process.

Hi,
You can see here that there is an explanation of how the script works.

General / Re: Using ColorCalibration on non galaxy images
« on: 2013 May 11 15:19:43 »
Hi,
When you have a galaxy in the image, you can take that galaxy as a white reference and use ColorCalibration tool in the range selection mode.
If you have no galaxy, then you need to select a large numbers of stars to be used as white reference in ColorCalibration tool, commonly all the image, and in this case use ColorCalibration in structure detection mode.
Take a look to BackgroundNeutralization and ColorCalibration

Bug Reports / Re: Alt n for preview ...weirdness on osx
« on: 2013 May 11 14:25:50 »
Alt n creates the preview OK but the toolbar icon asks for the size & position.

Hi Charles, that is because you are using the new preview which has a + sign on it.

Check that you have active the toolbar "Mode" in View>Tool bars>Mode, and use the icon called "New Preview Mode" = Alt+N

Hi, I believe that it is not a bug. In previous versions, DSE could have been done while a mask was applied, however that mask was not taken into consideration as the process builds its own.
Disable the mask and the script will work fine.
Anyhow a warning would sound better than an error.

Hi Dan,

It is much better!. The halos could be the result of apply HT while protecting stars with star mask or too much bias in ATWT, maybe in layer of 4 pixels.

If you have the process saved, you can check when it happened and modify it.

I agree that M42 is a difficult object, but a good challenge!.

Hi Andrea,

Sorry that I do not explain well, I do not mean stars, they are very well.
What I saw (in your page) were black artefact near the stars, that are product of the convertion to jpg, not "rombic shape" at all, they are perfect.

Hi Andrea, nice image, Congrats!.

I see the defect of the compression to jpg in the stars. Maybe you the page is resampling the image. It could be convenient that you resample and save the image in the size that is allowed in the page.
For publication in blogger, I usually do what I explained here.

Hi Dan, you are in the correct forum!

I do not know the process you have applied, but it seems that some of them were a little excessive, maybe when applied noise reduction.
It could be useful if you provide a detail of the process applied. I imagine that could be ATWT o MMT where the nebulae took that "plastic" look.
You have also to try the same process in previews of different places, as the parameters maybe good for a bright area but no for a dark one.

Hi Edoardo,

If the idea is to protect stars and background at the same time, yes. And in that case you will probably need to change Deconvolution parameters, as the actual I think are not enough to see changes.
Any way, I usually prefer not to protect the background with masks and control it with Wavelet Regularization in Deconvolution tool and finding the best parameters of deringing.

waiting for the final result  :)

Hi Edoardo,

I wouldn't apply ATWT for denoise before deconvolution, or if do it, only very little amount as it has already generated some artefact in the background that will be considerally increased when deconvolve the image.

Generate a PSF to be used as external PSF in Deconvolution

Applying Deconvolution with the PSF and values by default tipically will show rings in stars and the cores of the bigest stars will get darker, It can be seen clearly when the image is not stretched

Then it is conveniente to use a mask to protect the cores of the big stars
The dark rings will be solve almost completely using Deringing and adjusting Global dark, however usually it is helpful add some proteccion with starmask for those big stars
Generate a starmask to protect stars:

Then apply Deconvolution protecting stars and adjust Global dark conveniently to avoid rings.

It also could be helpful to enhance portection in stars that maybe are not correctly protected with the starmask. Then I create another starmask with the structure detection mode activated, to be used as Local deringing and it help in some medium size stars that were not completely protected with the starmask.

The star at the right is better protected using Local support

Hi Juan and thanks!!! :), converting to .fit did the trick to integrate the 300 bias. Anyway I am going for the brute force solution and will install more RAM.
Now I remember that it was what I usually did before when used XP with low RAM. O:)
Thanks again!

Definitely it looks very promising. Excellent work Carlos!
I can't wait for try it in an astrophoto!
