Workshops and Conferences / PixInsight in the UK - July 2013
« on: 2013 March 26 14:55:49 »
Ian King's next Advanced Imaging Course which includes a couple of hours on PI by Harry and myself will take place on 20th July in Coventry.

The content will be very similar to the last one held at Herstmonceux Castle back in December. We're hoping a more central location in the UK will favour those who couldn't attend in December.

See Ian's website for more details

I've been trying to capture this target for some time. This winter I've collected a lot of LRGB data and have been very critical in rejecting bad data. I've thrown around 25% of the subs away.

Lum 4 hours, RGB 2 hours each all at 10 minutes exposures using STL-11K on FSQ106 at f/3.6, Astrodon filters

Quite pleased with the result  :D

I been experimenting with adding Ha to RGB. I've followed Harry's tutorial based on Vicents procedure

The Ha data was collected in January 2011, RGB last month

Taken with FSQ106 at f/3.6 and STL-11000 using Astrodon filters

Bug Reports / Batch Preprocessing Script
« on: 2013 January 28 16:23:01 »
I've recently started using the Batch Preprocessing Script to save considerable time in calibrating my subs

I've encountered a problem in that the Script will only ever calibrate the first set of lights even though I've added Red, Green and Blue light frames. I've reproduced this on my Win 7 Pro 64 bit desktop and Win 7 Pro 32-bit laptop

Has anybody also encountered this problem? If so is there a work around?

Thanks in advance

I've recently upgraded my mount and this was first light. Only 4 x 20 minute exposures but pleased with the outcome  :D

A year in the waiting!

I captured the Lum and color data on 1 February 2012 (a very clear cold night). However, when I came to process it became apparent that my target had passed behind my neighbours tree losing some of the colour data!

Earlier this year I collected more colour data and tongiht sat down to process

I took 15s, 60s and 300s exposures to Lum and combined using HDR composition in PixInsight to get detail into the centre of M42

Enjoy!

Hi all

Finally got round to processing some data  :-[

The image below is a three pane mosaic processed in PixInsight using the multiscale method and mosaic star alignment. Fields of this size present lots of interesting challenges such a gradients .... Without the Save Project function I'd have been stuffed .....  :D

*** UPDATE ***

Exposure was 4x1200s per panel, so 3x80mins for the complete image

Hi all

Only managed to get 3 subs at 20 mins each last night between the clouds. As I haven't posted for a while thought I'd share  :D

This is the area around the Tulip nebula. the bright star is Eta Cygni

The second in a series of talks I'm doing for Macclesfield Astro Club and will take place at Macclesfield Town Hall 8pm Tuesday August 2nd

The first talk covered how to capture data (scopes, mounts, guiding, dithering etc)

Tomorrow I will be processing a LRGB image from subs to the finished LRGB image using PixInsight

Bug Reports / Histogram Title Bar issue
« on: 2011 February 02 23:21:27 »
This 'feature' has been annoying me for sometime and I believe Sander has reported it also

I can now reproduce it

With reference to the attached screenshot

1. Maximise Histo tool
2. Maximise HDRC tool
3. Maximise top image (HDR Mask 13)
4. Minimise top image
5. Minimise Histo tool
6. Minimise HDRC tool when the title bar on the Histo tool changes

General Discussion / HDRComposition problem
« on: 2011 February 02 16:56:29 »
Hi all

Following Rogelio's tutorial I've been playing with my wn data on IC434/M42

I am using 300s and 15s exposures

When I use HDRComposition the central core fo M42 is still burnt out.

I've located the problem to the mask generated. It is not masking the core at all. Which parameters do I tweak to fix this?

Thanks

Nigel

Hi all

A new camera and an old target this one

The reason I am posting this image is for assistance

I want to try Atrous Wavelets on this image but do not know where to start. So if anybody fancies a play please feel free to do so and let me know
