Solutions so simple it couldn't be any easier.

My Eureka Moment for the day!

I am going to try this.  I am sure my flats will need to be done as well.  I will let you all know.

Thanks for all of the input.

I just thought of something.  When I am using BackyardEOS to shoot my images with the USB cable, the camera is set to Manual mode and the software takes over from there.  What I noticed is that the LCD is saying on and displays the counting timer for the length of the bulb shot.

I can only find an option to turn the LCD Off on the sensor which turns off the LCD when you bring the camera up to your face.  I can't find the option to turn off the Bulb Timer.  Maybe a simple piece of tape will turn it off for good LOL.

This could be the cause of the stray light maybe.

Try this link:

If it was vignetting, wouldn't the flats take care of it?  I am going to make a shield I think and try that.  I have only noticed this ring once, and it was months ago.

Is there anything I can do?  Make a dew shield or light shield or get rid of the clip in CLS filter?

Image Processing Challenges / M78 issues Data Included
« on: 2013 February 14 15:55:41 »
I have been having issues processing M78.  I am getting a weird looking circle at the top of the frame.  Is it faint nebulosity? is it stray light? Bad Flats? I am not sure.  My flats are fresh just took them last night in the exact same orientation as the lights.  I have included the Master calibration frames that were created in PI 1.8 (latest build).  I am using the BatchPreprocessing script and going by Harry's wonderful video.  I am getting the following error before is begins registering:

ImageWindow.Set(): Invalid argument type.

Details of the image are located here:

And here is the data: http://sdrv.ms/12kHrtg

GL and HF :)

Thanks
Jeff

I would be all over that!!! 3XL for me please.

I would love the PixInsight wording with the Pleiades cluster or Logo or both.

PixInsight, where photons gather to play! lol

I am still having issues with this tool even after all of the help.  Here is a link to my thread: http://pixinsight.com/forum/index.php?topic=4849.0

I still have the data, when I have more time I will process.  My issues are also, getting hardening noticeable transitions from the different exposures, no matter what blending I use.

Fake was a strong word.  I should have chosen a different word.

What a great video!  I am going to try this later on my M78.

Thanks for the replies and the support.  I finally got my first ever batchprocess working! in fact I couldn't get DSS to work at all!  I was surprised that I got PI script to work, never had much luck before.

Scott Rosen has a nice video on how to do this with a DSLR and I am wondering if this is possible with PI?

I started with PI and I am finding there are so many tools that I have no idea what any of them do, Harry's videos got me started.

What do you think of this? Make sure to go into lightbox mode to really see the details:

Thanks Carlos, I was playing around with the MT tool and this is what I came up with:

Is it better?  I used erosion and a 2 box diagonal in the direction of the trailing.  I kind of see bubble artifacts but not sure if I am just seeing things or not.
